Exploring the Region

Plozévet is ideally located to visit Finistère and the wild southwest part of Brittany with its own rich culture and remote ‘end-of-the-earth’ feel.

The city of Quimper is half-an-hour by car, the charming town of Audierne is 15 minutes away, with a host of other villages and spots to explore even closer.

For more information, the Plozévet information office is the long building with blue shutters a few minutes’ walk from the house.

CULTURE AND HISTORY

The churches of Plozévet, Saint Dément, la Trinité and Saint Ronan are remarkably well preserved by local charities and associations.

La Peskerezh is only three kilometers from the sea; the coast is wild and pristine, untouched by mass-tourism but popular with surfers, divers, spear-fishers..  The famous sentier des douaniers, the path taken by the customs authorities following the coast of Brittany for many hundreds of kilometers, provides spectacular walks with views over the bay.  Here are found the traditional ovens where seaweed was burned to make fertilizer, as well as the Menhir de la Liberté, the famous monument to the shipwreck of the La Liberté.

The picturesque port of Pors Poulhan, a couple of minutes west of Plozévet’s main beach is the border between the Plozévet and Plouhinec.  This port used to be the base for the rescue crews coming to the assistance of vessels in distress in the notoriously difficult bay of Audierne.

Butchers: Le Quere as well, on the corner.

Intermarché:  A fairly well-stocked standard supermarket.

Restaurants:

            Le Vaisseau Brasserie

Crêperie les Sonneurs (book ahead on 02 9891 3839)

            Oceane Brasserie at Pors Poulan

Efes is a local kebab shop run by a charming Kurdish couple
